Meet the Peer Leaders

Rachel Freeman

Rachel is a senior graduating in May 2019 after four of the best years in her favorite San Marvelous. As the Peer Leader Program manager, she loves connecting with second-year and transfer students, sharing resources and encouraging involvement in the Bobcat community. Rachel also loves to read, nap in her hammock, dance with friends, swim in the river, and explore nature.

Megan Powell

Megan is a senior here at Texas State. She transferred from ACC after completing her associate's degree from there. It was a bit of an adjustment going from a small campus to such a large campus, but she has grown to love it here! Her classes are interesting, and Megan believes the professors really care about their students' success.

Favorite Thing(s) About TXST/San Marcos: "The local restaurants! As a commuter from Buda/Kyle, where it's mostly chain restaurants, it's nice to come to San Marcos to eat."

Destiny Whitaker

Destiny was born in Dallas, Texas. Music, macaroni and cheese, and chocolate chip cookies are just a few of her favorite things. She enjoys going to concerts, museums, and experiencing pretty much any form of art live and in-person! In her free time, she enjoys listening the podcasts, watching documentaries, and thrifting. Destiny also did competitive cheerleading for 13 years, so when I am not at the RMP Office I am coaching tumbling classes at Star Gymnastics in South Austin.

Favorite Thing(s) About TXST/San Marcos: "My favorite thing about Texas State is all of the great experiences and opportunities available - studying abroad being at the top of the list! I love my black student student organization and all the things that come with being a part of BSO life at TXST. You can find me at Blaze every weekend - her favorite place to eat in San Marcos!"

Manisha Maharaj

During her free time, Manisha loves to paint, draw, bullet journal and sing. Over the years, she has learned to love TXST with its great staff and pretty campus. Everyone is very welcoming, and her school experience has only gotten better as she has gotten closer with faculty. A few of Manisha's favorite things to do are visiting the coffee shops on the Square, going to The Spot for some bowling, and watching the sunset over San Marcos from a rooftop.

Favorite Thing(s) About TXST/San Marcos: "I will be graduating early, but if I had more time I would spend it by the river when I could!"

Oscar Zarate

Hailing from Houston, Texas, Oscar is a first-generation student here at Texas State. While at TXST, he has met many awesome people and built some really great friendships. He absolutely loves all animals, but dogs are his absolute favorite! He can also mediocrely play multiple instruments.

Favorite Thing(s) About TXST/San Marcos: "I love how San Marcos is between San Antonio and Austin because there is always something to do if you get bored of all the things San Marcos has to offer."
